Description

Nicholas Cheveldave’s artist book, Big City Dreaming, is a project made up of 160 collages based around the contemporary housing crisis, and the general usafordebility of city living. The collages are put together with found newspaper pages from The Evening Standard and Metro; free daily commuter papers distributed in London, UK. The collages also feature personal and found images Cheveldave has collected from urban environments and rural nature. The book’s theme takes the housing market's rhetoric of fantasy-buying and the dream home and juxtaposes this capitalistic aspiration with the reality of the excessively high cost of city living and the anxiety of overpopulation and personal debt.
