Description

This is the first collection of works by Ryu Mieno, who has been widely active for over a decade, centering on graphic production with a focus on text.
In this book of over 500 pages, Mieno’s versatile graphic works—known for their boundless creativity—are categorized into five themes: “Designing Sensations,” “Deconstruction of Typography,” “Drifting Stills,” “From the Five Senses to Word Sense,” and “Tuning of Meaning.” Through perspectives such as tactility, the passage of time, and the interplay between abstraction and concreteness, the book offers a deep analysis of Mieno’s thinking and approach to design.
Additionally, the final section includes a roundtable discussion with Daijiro Ohara, who also bases his work on letters and typography, and Yuta Ichinose, who was responsible for the design of this book. Together, they explore in dialogue the actions, thoughts, and modes of perception at the core of Mieno’s practice.
