我們在日常生活中為什麼如此強烈地受圖像和圖畫的吸引？我們為什麼感到靜止的圖像具有動態，仿佛活畫一般？圖像為何無時無刻不在影響著我們，說服著我們，誘惑著我們，甚至引導我們走上邪路？蜜雪兒教授將在他的《圖像何求？》中回答這些問題。

《圖像何求？——形象的生命與愛》是他“圖像三部曲”中“具原創性的一部”（蜜雪兒語）（另兩部《圖像學》和《圖像理論》已由北京大學出版社出版）。蜜雪兒認為，我們應該把圖像/形象看作活的東西，具有它們自己的欲望和動力，有其自己的言語和活動，施展其自身的魅力和影響。

該書涉及蜜雪兒教授擅長的圖像研究領域，包括視覺藝術、文學和媒介之間的關係。他的深察洞見尤其體現在書中對拜占庭偶像、賽博朋克影片、種族原型和公共紀念碑的分析和評論，為圖像學和剛剛興起的視覺文化研究開闢了新的視野。
