《熱切的渴望：攝影概念的誕生》是Geoffrey Batchen教授攝影理論研究方面的重要著作。本書收集了大量與攝影早期實踐及其環境有關的材料，通過典型的福柯式的分析，提出了「攝影術的出現並非由技術主導，而是來源於對再現瞬間的渴望」這一核心觀點。作者的旁徵博引與闡幽發微拓展了我們的視野，對攝影史論的研究深具啟發意義。


Geoffrey Batchen
當代享譽世界的攝影理論家、著名攝影史學家。目前在新西蘭惠靈頓維多利亞大學專門從事攝影史教學工作。他的著作包括：《熱切的渴望：攝影概念的誕生》（1999年，中文版即本書）、《勿忘我：攝影與緬懷》（2004年）、《威廉·亨利·福克斯·塔爾博特》（2008年）、《〈鞋子〉的意義何在：凡·高與藝術史》（2009年）、《停滯的時間：生命、攝影與死亡》（2010年）以及《每一個瘋狂的念頭》（中文版於2015年出版）。巴欽還主編了《零度攝影：反思羅蘭·巴特的〈明室〉》（2009年），併合編《拍攝暴行：危機關頭的攝影》（2012年）。2016 年4月，他策劃的展覽《流光溢彩：無相機攝影藝術》在新西蘭戈維特—布儒斯特藝廊舉辦。同名書籍將由普利斯特出版社於2016年出版。
