Glyphs這套Mac系統專用的字型製作軟體，因其幾乎可涵括全球各種語言的製作，加上在製作字型方面相當直觀與便利的功能，自推出以來已成為全球設計師所喜愛的字型設計專用軟體。

這套軟體目前已推出第三版，本書為針對第3版所撰寫的操作手冊。前6章，由日本四位長年在字型製作領域耕耘，並實際運用Glyphs製作字型的設計師：大曲都市、照山裕爾、丸山邦朋、吉田大成，以圖文並陳的方式，一步步從入門階段帶領讀者從購買、安裝到繪製路徑的步驟與方法。針對已經知道軟體如何操作的讀者，則建議讀者從第4章製作圖案字型、歐文字型、日文字型開始閱讀。

為使讀者能夠學習本書示範功能，各章節皆有準備「作業檔案」，讓讀者更能透過實作掌握軟體操作技巧。繁中版也新增由「字嗨」社團發起人柯志杰撰寫的「如何透過Glyphs製作中文字型」，以及justfont設計師曾國榕所整理的「Glyphs外掛專欄」單元，提供台灣字型設計學生與專業人士進一步理解使用Glyphs製作中文字型的基礎概念。
