Description

由金子常光繪製，於1935年發行的「台北市大觀」鳥瞰圖中有這麼一段話：
「本市由原本（指清代）的城內、大稻埕、艋舺三個市街及鄰近部落所組成。這三個區域至今依舊保有各自的特色。舊城內主要為內地人居住地，作為島都的行政、經濟機關必然有之，就連公園、圖書館、博物館等各類文化設施也一應俱全。這一區內大體上具備了近代文明都市雄偉的外觀，市街上紅磚與鋼筋水泥的大廈高樓櫛比鱗次，跨幅8間（約6尺）以上的平坦柏油路縱橫貫通。而在包圍著市街、寬達25至45間的環狀公園綠道，也就是『三線道路』的範圍中設有步道、圓形、半圓形的小公園。由於如此瀟灑的景觀而有『東洋的小巴黎』之稱。」

19世紀結束前的1895年，日本開始了新領土台灣的經營。13年後，全台第一座，同時也是空前絕後的高級西式飯店在台北市開幕；再過7年，台北城內出現了大量的台、日、歐混血嶄新街屋；而在日本治台第37年，台灣史上第一家百貨店也在台北市區誕生。
