Each of the letters in this compilation of letter designs was hand-drawn.
These letter designs, also called lettering, differ from the fonts that are stored as existing data in computers. All of the letter designs, newly created by the graphic designer to match the words and phrases expressed or the particular medium employed, are imbued with originality and power.
This book is a complete collection of all of the letter designs contained in A Compilation of Contemporary Letter Designs, which was originally published in 1934 and became a best selling letter design collection.
The letter designs in this superb collection by Katsumi Tsuji, a graphic designer who was active in the Taisho and Showa periods, appear fresh and new in any age in which they are seen.
The world of elegant letter designs presented in this reprint of the original book includes not only a large number of special lettering designs but also product names and company logos of well-known companies still seen today, family crests, prefectural and city government badges, and school badges.
