Description

*FLOWERBED* is the latest work by Japanese designer and illustrator Yoshishige Watanabe, following his previous works such as *BROOCH*, *ANDOU*, *Jarney*, and *Shinjunoko*, marking his return to picture books for adults. Watanabe is also widely known for his packaging designs for the popular confectionery brand AUDREY, and this book continues her signature delicate and poetic visual style.

The story was originally created specifically for a flower shop. The protagonist whispers, "I emerged from a bed of flowers and became a hill of blooming flowers." The entire book revolves around a girl surrounded by flowers, and a cluster of white and black flowers—beautiful, delicate, yet like entrances to another world, carrying a quiet and mysterious aura.

*FLOWERBED* is not just a book to read, but more like a carefully wrapped object. The book uses thin, glossy paper, like wrapping paper, and includes a small yellow tracing paper sheet as a visual surprise, along with small flower photo cards resembling printed photographs. Turning the pages thus becomes like unwrapping a bouquet of flowers, a letter, or a treasured gift.

In addition to the main text, the book includes an afterword by Yoshishige Watanabe, "Girls Flower," and a contribution by florist Emi Shinozaki, "BEDROOM." These writings further expand upon the book's world of girls, flowers, memories, and fantasies.
